New to disability

A calm starting point when everything feels too much

If you are newly disabled, newly using a wheelchair, or supporting someone whose needs have changed, this page helps you get oriented without pretending the system is simple.

Your first week checklist
  1. 1Write a one-page summary of what changed and what help is needed day to day.
  2. 2List urgent access barriers: bathroom, bedroom, entrance, transport, appointments, food, medication.
  3. 3Keep a diary of fatigue, pain, falls, near-misses, support needs, and what happens without help.
  4. 4Pick one person to help keep track of calls, letters, passwords, forms, and appointment notes.
